HBOT (Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy)

HBOT fastens the healing process that requires adequate oxygen in the tissue. Most illnesses and injuries occur and often remains the same, at the cellular or tissue level because of the inadequate supply of oxygen. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy provides this extra oxygen naturally and with minimal side effects. There are many benefits of HBOT like, it promotes wound healing, improves and repairing the injury, increasing oxygen delivery to damaged tissues, etc.

How does it work?

The earth’s atmosphere normally exerts 14.7 pounds per square inch of pressure at sea level, which is equivalent to 1 atmosphere absolute. Normally we breathe approximately 20% oxygen and 80% nitrogen.

During HBOT, the pressure is increased up to two times the normal and the patient breathes 100 percent oxygen while the entire body is totally immersed in 100 percent oxygen. Since the oxygen is under increased atmospheric pressure, there is increased diffusion of this oxygen into the plasma, resulting ultimately in sustained delivery of increased oxygen to the oxygen deprived tissues. This leads to accelerated healing of various types of problem wounds.

Benefits of HBOT:

HBOT fastens the healing process that requires adequate oxygen in the tissue. Most illnesses and injuries occur, and often remains the same, at the cellular or tissue level because of the inadequate supply of the oxygen. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy provides this extra oxygen naturally and with minimal side effects. Following are the benefits of HBOT-

  • Promotes wound healing
  • Improves and repairing injury, by increasing oxygen delivery to damaged tissues
  • Improves infection control
  • Increases the production of collagen
  • Promotes stem cell release and migration to area of injury
  • Reduces the effects of carbon monoxide poisoning
  • Improves blood flow to the affected area of the brain

Medical conditions treated by HBOT with Stem Cell:

  • Autism
  • Sports Injuries
  • Diabetic
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Arthritis
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Stroke
  • Migraine
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Down Syndrome
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Recovery from Plastic Surgery
  • Decompression Sickness
  • Burns
  • Muscular Dystrophy

Does HBOT have any side effects?

When used in standard protocols, hyperbaric oxygen therapy is safe. The commonest side effect may be slight pain in the ears due to blocked Eustachian tube. Pneumothorax and air embolism and transient reversible myopia after prolonged HBOT are rare complications. An occasional patient may be claustrophobic.

Cost of HBOT:

Mostly the patients need multiple sessions likely to be 30-45 session, each of 60-90 minutes. Typically, one session per day is prescribed by the doctors. Hyperbaric treatments average cost between 50-90 USD per session.
